General Self-Defense Bootcamp

Week One: Learning the technique

  • Day 1: Understanding the Mindset of Self-Defense. You will go over the importance of having the right mindset, learning about situational awareness, and reading body language.

  • Day 2: Starting with the basics. You will start with learning how to break out of someone’s hold, using the environment to keep someone away and run away.

  • Day 3: Defending yourself. You will go over learning how to break body holds and pinning in order to run away.

  • Day 4: Standing your ground. You take the techniques you have learned and use them to take down your attacker.

  • Day 5: How to use self-defense tools. You will be learning how to use some of the most common self-defense tools along with the techniques you’ve learned

    • If you have your own tool that you’d like to learn how to use, please bring it on this day.

    • Please don’t bring in firearms for the safety of all members.


Week Two: Applying your Technique

During this week you will apply your skills in a more realistic setting. Your instructors will act at a faster pace to help establish real-world applications. Each day will be set up for a different environment with a different style of clothing to help you.

  • Day 1: In an open space. You will be using the techniques you learned in Week One and working in the dojo.

    • Dress in your everyday clothes.

  • Day 2: At a party or at a club. You will be using your techniques around others and then as if you are walking home alone.

    • Dress like you’re going out. Please remember to put shorts on under skirts and dresses. Bring your heels but don’t put them on yet.

  • Day 3: In the parking lot. We will be outside among our cars practicing your techniques.

    • Dress in your everyday clothes.

  • Day 4: In a hallway or closed-off space. You will be using your techniques inside the hallway at the dojo. There will also be narrowed spaces set up in the dojo.

    • Dress in your everyday clothes

  • Day 5: Using your tools in a setting. On our last day, you will have some more advanced applications. We will be using some of your self-defense tools in a setting of your choice. Please do not bring in firearms.

What is self-defense?

Self-defense is a countermeasure that involves defending the health and well-being of oneself from harm.

Is it really important to learn?

Every 68 seconds someone in the United States is sexually assaulted and about every nine minutes that person will be a child. On average, 1 - 6 women and 1 - 33 men are victims of attempted or completed rape and sexual assault. Around 13% of college students will experience sexual assault. Source

What age should I start learning this?

You can start learning at any age. It’s never to early or late to defend yourself.
